Notes
Parents unproven. Mother, Lucy McBee, is based on deduction. Note that Elisha gave his daughter Lucinda the middle name Magby, and early spelling of McBee. Elisha, brother of Elijah, move to MS, LA and finally TX. A reference in a Kaufman TX county history seems to say that they were orphaned at an early age and raised by an uncle. Born in Georgia, orphaned at an early age and raised in SC by an uncle. Came to TX 1837, fought in Mexican War and in several Indian skirmishes. Married- Rachel Brandon & had several children. Lived in Kaufman County with his son, Zachariah. He is buried at Campground Cemetery in Poetry, a community he was instrumental in founding. After 1854 Elisha gave each of his five children 200 acres of land near Turner's Point, Texas. In 1876 the community name was changed from Turner's Point to Poetry.
